As such, they hold a special place in the memories of most QR enthusiasts. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eClass leader 1720 first made an appearance in Queensland in 1966 and was a higher-powered version of the 1700 class. These units quickly proved themselves in all forms of traffic, from branch-line mixed goods services and suburban services to general freight and livestock trains. Most of the class members are still in traffic today as the last 60 tonne locomotives operating regularly on the Queensland Network. As branch-line locomotives, they could run on all lines.
